this morning
This bright Memorial Day morning I was on Randall's Island where I snapped this shot of the arched belly of the Hells Gate Bridge.

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to blog during the past few weeks. As the school year comes rapidly to an end, life has been acutely busy. Consequently, there has been little time for friends and social life. I joke with some of them that like special-ops soldiers dropping all communication with the outside world before a covert attack, "I've gone dark."
On the health front, all continues to go well. This past Tuesday I had a 6-month follow-up with my nurse practitioner at Sloan. Except for an increasingly vexing pain in my hands and wrists symptomatic of carpal tunnel syndrome, there's no real news to report. I already have own a pair of wrist braces, which I had been lazy about wearing during the past 6 months, I guess. Clearly, there's reason for me to begin using them more regularly again.
I remain on the same laundry list of medications. My blood pressure is very good. I gained a couple of pounds as I hadn't been exercising regularly due to the pressures of work, but I'm back on board once again.
Before I bid you all a pleasant holiday weekend, I wanted to share a bit of cool news. About two months ago, I was asked to be one of the speakers at the hospital's National Survivorship Day celebration on June 16th. Hoda Kotb of NBC's TODAY Show will be its keynote speaker. If you want to attend, please RSVP at donorrelations@mskcc.org.
Hundreds will be in attendance that evening. I've never given an address to so many. Frightened of public speaking as a child and most of adulthood, I had serious doubts that I'd ever be even mildly comfortable in front of people but that's what I do everyday as a teacher. Some times the best way to face a challenge is to just face it. It all starts with a change of perspective and a little guts.
Several weeks ago, I typed a couple of introductory sentences but haven't done anything since then. I still have time.
Enjoy your Monday!

On Tuesday, I plan to attend the opening reception of Lehman College Art Gallery's 25th Anniversary celebration. My photograph of the Gould Memorial Library will be exhibited.
I have shown my work in only two places so far. Focal Point Gallery in City Island and of course, the annual show at Sloan have been it. So, it will be interesting to show a sample of my work to a new audience, hear their feedback, and to meet a new community of artists.
It should be fun.
