remembering jasmina

Yesterday evening, my mother informed me that the graceful, beautiful Jasmina, who had touched the hearts of so many with her brave struggle against cancer, had passed away on Thursday. I had no clue. So, I searched online and sure enough, there I found the unexpected news:

Remembering Jasmina

Jasmina Anema, Brave Six-Year-Old Who Captured New Yorker's Hearts, Loses Battle with Leukemia

Jasmina Anema's Fight Against Leukemia Shined Spotlight on Often-Overlooked Disease, Experts Say

I'm not the most eloquent at the moment, but it was truly amazing to witness how this six-year old girl inspired so many. One can make a difference. I hope we don't forget this....

I send thoughts of loving kindness to her mother, family, and friends.

Hello Duane. You don't know me but I have been reading your blog on and off. I am both a photographer and fighting leukemia. After years of putting my photography on the back burner I am now out and about taking pics again. I'm sure you know how healing it is. Recently my local Cancer center in New England agreed to use some of my images for their greeting cards to raise money. This is even better than getting paid to be in some magazine. I love your blog and look forward to seeing more of your images and following your story

Sorry for this belated response, but thank you for taking the time to share such generosity. That's most kind of you.

As you're well aware, photography can be such a liberating explorative activity. It's awesome. And I'm happy to hear that your local cancer center is using your images to raise awareness and money. What an honor!

I wish you continued strength as fight the leukemia. To be able to give openly even while you're facing adversity is a powerful thing.

Please stay in touch!
