senator specter: hodgkin's survivor

Here's a great interview of Arlen Specter, the senior U.S. senator from Pennsylvania, in which he shares inspirational and insightful details about his battle against stage IVB Hodgkin's Lymphoma which are explained in his new book, Never Give In: Battling Cancer in the Senate.

Many thanks to Laura for passing this along.

Nice clip.
He also did a bit on The Daily Show. I'm not terribly surprised to learn that our President is apparently confused about the difference between cancer and ebola.

I like Specter's message, but I am always a little worried by the unintentional implication that determination is enough to beat cancer. It's often necessary, but not always sufficient.

I agree, Kevin. I myself know too many remarkable people, who had a heart of gold with an inspirational spirit, but they still fell to cancer.
