on faith

The Washington Post continues its "On Faith" column that explores various topics of religious conversation. Now and then I'll check in to see what's the topic. Yesterday afternoon I read just a few of the essays written by religious scholars and theologians addressing the question, "Why would a merciful God allow disasters - natural or manmade - to happen?" I'm curious to read the responses of some of the others. Check it out for yourself here.

Suffering is part of our journey here on earth. Although it is not a desirable option, suffering occurs because we live in a fallen world. Thus, we and creation suffer the consequences of sin. When Jesus died on the cross, he died to redeem us eternally. I am a cancer survivor, and I know what you are going through - be of good courage - God greatly cares for you in the person of Jesus Christ. By the way, I pray regularly for you. Helen Evans
