remembering 1776

Here's a very engaging article about the Tories, who remained loyal to King George III during the War for Independence. The Tories and their sympathizers amounted to about 1 in 5 Americans at the time of the war. The traditional national lore about 1776 is almost entirely silent on their view of the war and the Empire except for the very basic, exaggerated caricatures that exist. In Sunday's NYT Magazine, Maya Jasanoff offers an honest portrayal of the Tories and reexamines their largely overlooked story: Loyal to a Fault

Wrapped in the Star-Spangled Banner is another very interesting article related to American history.
