graduation weekend

Graduation was Friday afternoon. One couldn't have asked for a better day. The weather was lovely. Indeed, during the entire weekend it was great. My parents and sister were there with my aunt and her family as well as my good friend, Jared, from Vassar. The bagpipers were terrific. Following the ceremony, we went to the small reception held by my department in Pick Hall, where my family met and interacted with my colleagues and professors. The day ended with dinner at California Pizza Kitchen in the Loop. Below are some pictures from the graduation ceremony. My sister took many more photographs that afternoon, but I won't be able to view and upload those until I return home.

On Saturday, we spent the day together touring some of Chicago's sites. We took a historical boat tour that traversed the waters of Lake Michigan and the Chicago River. The weather was wonderful. I think everyone had a memorable time on the boat. In particular, my father seemed to get a kick out of it. I was very pleased to see him enjoying himself, since he doesn't like to travel much. Denise, my sister, appeared to become enamored with Chicago and its energy. Following the boat tour, we strolled through Navy Pier taking in its many attractions. We, then, walked around the Loop and headed south on the Red Line to Chinatown, where we ate at a superb Chinese restaurant called Phoenix that I found in my Lonely Planet-Chicago guide book.

Yesterday my family left for home but the touring continued. Su and I went to the Shedd Aquarium in the afternoon and then, we saw Ocean's 13 after dinner.
