sinus/chest report

My cough persists but occurs much less frequently. My throat remains sore. My ears pop when I blow my nose. My nose isn't runny like before and the sneezing is gone.

I learned from Dr. Louis Portugal, an ENT specialist at the hospital, this afternoon that the CT scan of my sinus and chest was negative for signs of an infection. The test didn't show anything remarkable. Indeed, what was shown was consistent with one who has a cold. Consequently, he took cultures from my nasal cavities to see if these will show anything. The results should be available in two days. He said I'm suspect for an infection even though the scan didn't identify such a thing. Due to the persistence of the cold and that fact that I've been receiving chemotherapy, he thought it best to act now. Therefore, rather than wait for the results to return, he prescribed Levaquin, an antibacterial medicine, in the interim. It is hoped that the cold will continue to weaken and eventually, die off during this time. Of course, if the culture reveals something for which the Levaquin isn't adequate, then a different course of action will be taken.

On a side note, I found out that the CT scan showed a significant shrinkage of the tumor in my chest. I didn't receive any more information nor did ask to read the pathology report, so I'll just have to wait until after tomorrow's PET-CT to find out the full story.
