a hell of a job!

Three weeks are left in the quarter. And then, after just one more week will be graduation.

My thesis is due on Friday, which as you might imagine seems to be taking up most of my brain's oxygen at the moment. The progress of my thesis is in pretty good shape, I think. I didn't have Arabic class on Friday because of the MEHAT Conference, so I was able to spend that day and most of yesterday revising my thesis. I've reviewed it pretty thoroughly, though I'm sure to review it several more times between now and when I submit it. On Friday, I gave a copy to Rashid, one of the doctoral graduates in our program for review since my primary thesis reader wasn't too helpful. He promised to have comments/feedback tomorrow afternoon. So my hope is that between the changes that I've made this weekend and those that I'll make following my meeting with Rashid on Monday, I should be done by Thursday at the latest.

Indeed, although I still have my other courses to worry about, they're not at the forefront of my thoughts and effort right now. It's the bloody thesis! Finals are approaching rapidly. In fact, the Byzantine and Mahfouz final papers are due after next week. So, there's not a great deal of time, especially since I'm behind in the readings for both courses but I figure that once the thesis is in I should be fine.

I'm very proud of what I've been able to accomplish during these past weeks. With all that's happening, I've been able to remain focused despite some mishaps and get the work done and that to me is something worth being happy about. It has been very difficult at moments and many times I doubted if I'd be able to complete the thesis in time. I thought about postponing its completion until the summer. I wondered anxiously how I was going to balance my studies and treatment. How was I going to do it all? But I have done it. I'm almost at the finish line. I've even surprised myself. Indeed, I won't receive a gold star or shouldn't expect any special accolade for doing what I've done (because that's what I had to do), but I must be honest: I think I've done a hell of a job!

I'm completely in awe of you, Duane, and so proud that you pushed through to finish all of this. Hopefully I'll get to see you soon, and you should imagine I'm in the audience on your graduation as you were for mine-you'll certainly be in my thoughts that day.
