the last all-nighter

I submitted the two final papers that were due today prior to Arabic class this morning. Unfortunately, I had to do an all-nighter in order to finish them on time, however. Because all my energy was devoted to completing my thesis last week, I started working on the final papers only this week and so, I found myself in the situation that was in yesterday working feverishly all day (and night) to complete the papers by this morning. And what if I had had treatment yesterday? How could I have done it all? There would have been no way.

I finished the Mahfouz paper late yesterday afternoon. It took me a bit longer to complete than I expected (which is the case generally for papers), but it wasn't a problem. I think it's pretty good. It was the second paper - the one on Byzantine military history - that forced me to stay up all night. The research had been completed. I just wasn't sure exactly how I was going to organize the paper and my argument. In the end, the Byzantine paper wasn't my best. Though I think I answered the question, I could have done a much better job. I surely could have used a few more hours to revise it, but considering the lack of time it was the best I could do. Indeed, I finished it just in time this morning to leave it in my professor's box in the History Department and make it to Arabic class on time.

I just wish I didn't have to do an all-nighter. Late last night I made two visits to the Dunkin' Donuts on 53rd Street (just one block away from my apartment), which during the past few nights has become a regular locale of mine, for a much needed jolt of energy. I went there first at about midnight and then, again at 5 am. I, then, purchased my third cup of coffee for the day at the Div School cafe on campus when Arabic class was over. I was so exhausted this morning. I felt so tired in Arabic class. I'm sure my face showed it all.

Anyway, it's done. I'm exhausted, but the work is complete. Just one more week of classes and my last final exam will be a week from today. There's no class on Monday. With my last final exam not until next Friday, I may try to catch a movie this weekend or do something else that's enjoyable.

Hey Duane,

Congrats on your last all nighter. I had a similar situation Thursday night/Friday morning, I so understand what you went through.

I am wondering if you and Su would be up for breakfast again at our favorite place tomorrow morning? If you are, let me know! :)

By the way, my blog now has an "anoymous comment" feature, so you can leave comments even though you don't have a xanga account.

I hope you're sleeping or resting right now! Great job, man. We're almost done.
