the blessings of being warm-blooded

A Mammal in Winter With a Furnace of Her Own is a very good article that explains briefly how we humans and other mammals produce our own energy so much so that our bodies stay warm and regulated regardless of the environment around us. Such a flexible internal system makes us very independent and adaptable (unlike other animals), but it also compels us to consume a high number of calories regularly.

It's a wonderful thing to be a mammal, especially in cold winter days like the ones we have witnessed recently.
