james kim

I was deeply saddened this morning to learn about the death of James Kim, whose body was found in the woods of Oregon yesterday. As I browsed my usual news websites yesterday, I noticed the headlines concerning the disappearance of a man in Oregon, but I didn't take the time to investigate them. Then, this morning I saw that the man's body had been found and when I looked at the man's photo, I said to myself: "Hey, he looks familiar. I've seen him before." However, I wasn't sure how. It didn't take more than a few minutes before I realized why he looked so familiar. CNET.com is a technology-geared website for consumers and in the weeks before purchasing my MP3 player this summer, I visited this site often looking for advice about digital music players. Well, James Kim was CNET's Senior Editor and he reviewed many of the digital products that I was investigating. The website has short videos in which its staff reviews the products under investigation. This is where I was introduced to Mr. Kim. That's why his image looked so familiar this morning.

For several minutes this morning after I read about the discovery of his body and after I learned the specifics of how he and his family got lost in the Oregonian woods after Thanksgiving, I was really taken back by it all. It's such a horrible story. He had two young kids, who are fatherless now. It's clear from the reports that I read that there was a lot of support and energy that went into the search and rescue missions. It's just so disheartening that it ended the way it did.

CNET.com has a place, where one can offer their prayers and wishes to the Kim family. I posted my words of condolence there this morning.
