adler planetarium

On the evening of the 4th, I attended the first of two classes at the Adler Planetarium about how art and astronomy have interacted through history. We studied paintings by Vermeer and Holbein, for example, in which astronomy made a significant part of the symbolism of the paintings. Titled Picturing the Heavens: Astronomy & Art the class will meet again on November 1.

I signed up for another series at the Adler too. Titled Shooting for the Moon: The U.S. Space Program and the Cold War, this 2 part class will meet in December.

The wonderful thing about these classes besides learning something new is that they encourage me to get a little away from Hyde Park, where I found myself spending too much of my free time during my first year at UChicago.
